Spread Bengali literature, culture across globe: PM

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stressed the need for spreading the Bengali literature and culture across the globe massively.

The prime minister said: “We’re Bangalees and we want to continue the practice of our culture. So a special attention will have to be given so that our literature and culture spread further at the international level.”

The premier said this while handing over the prestigious “Ekushey Padak-2020” as the chief guest at a function at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday (February 20).

Expressing hope that nation will remember history behind sacrifice for the language generation after generation, the Prime Minister said Ekushey has taught us not to bow down to anyone and self-respect. Our freedom was written in Ekushey blood. This day is very glorious for us. We want people to know the history of this glory generation after generation.

Sheikh Hasina said: “The world cannot advance with only a single country. It has to move with all nations of the globe. So there is a necessity to learn other languages. But it’s not proper at all to forget our own language.”

Sheikh Hasina added that many people of the country have to stay abroad incidentally. “Then we’ve to always give proper dignity to our own language,” she said.
