No army deployment in Dhaka city polls: EC

DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has decided not to deploy army at polling centres during the two Dhaka city elections, slated to be held on February 1.

Election Commission Secretariat Senior Secretary Md Alamgir disclosed this while talking to reporters after a regular meeting at election commission office in the capital on Tuesday (Jan 21).

EC secretary said the commission has no plan to deploy army during elections to the two Dhaka city corporations as it’s a local government election not the national one.

However, members of others law enforcement agencies will discharge their duties during the elections. Besides, experts will be present at every polling centre to conduct the voting by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
