Accused in 19 cases killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’ 

DHAKA: A man, accused in 19 cases, was killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Khilkhet of the capital early Tuesday (Jan 21). 

The incident took place around 2:15 am in Barua area.  

The deceased identified as Anwar Hossain, 34, was an accused in 18 drug-related cases and one rape case. 
 
ASP Kamruzzaman, company commander of RAB-1, said tipped off that a gang of drug peddlers gathered in the area, a Rab team rushed there around 2:10am. 

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the drug peddlers opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to fire back in self-defence, he added.

Later, Anwar Hossain’s body was recovered from the spot.

1,950 pieces of Yaba pills, four shooter-guns and 34 cartridges wre also recovered from the scene, Kamruzzaman said.
