GAZIPUR: The second phase of 55th Biswa Ijtema, the second largest congregation of the Muslims, has begun on the bank of the Turag River at Tongi on the outskirts of the city on Friday (January 17).

The last phase of Ijtema began with 'Aam Bayan' (general sermons) by Maulana Osman, which was translated by Maulana Abdul Munsur after Fajr prayers.

The final phase is scheduled to end with Akheri Munajat (final prayers) on Sunday (January 19).

Around 2 lakhs Muslims are expected to attend Jumu'ah, also known as Friday Prayer. Maulana Mosharraf Hossen will lead the prayer.

Devotees from home and abroad are thronging the Ijtema ground to take part in the religious event, Banglanews correspondent reports.
