Rifat Murder: Charge framing deferred to December 8 Rifat Sharif

BARGUNA: The framing of the charge against 14 accused in the Barguna youth Rifat Sharif murder case has been deferred to January 8.

Barguna Women and Children Repression Tribunal Judge Md Hafizur Rahman fixed the date on Monday (November 18) after the plaintiff as well as the lawyers on behalf of the state had sought time extension.

This day (Monday) was the date for framing of the charge.

Mojibul Haque Kislu, a lawyer on behalf of the plaintiff, told Banglanews: “The plaintiff, defendant as well as the state sought time extension for framing of the charge. The court accepted the plea and fixed January 8 in this regard.”

Earlier on October 31, the court ordered to produce 14 underage accused before the court. As per the order, they were present today. 

The 14 underage accused are as follows:--Rashidul Hasan Rishan Farazi, 17, Rakibul Hassan Rifat Howlader, 15, Abu Abdullah Raihan, 16, Oliullah Oli, 16, Joy Chandra Sarkar Chandan, 17, Naim, 17, Tanvir Hossain, 17 Nazmul Hassan, 14, Rakibul Hasan Niamat, 15, Syed Maruf Billah Mahibullah, 17, Maruf Mallick, 17, Prince Mollah, 15, Ratul Sikder Joy, 16, Aryan Hossain Sravan, 16.

Earlier on September 1, charge sheet was submitted against 24 persons, including no-7 accused Ayesha Siddika Minni, who was the wife of slain youth Rifat Sharif.

Out of the 24 accused, 10 accused are adults while 14 are underage. 

22-year-old Rifat Sharif, from Barguna sadar upazila, was hacked to death indiscriminately by his wife’s alleged former husband Nayan Bond and his aides in broad daylight in front of Barguna Government College on June 26.

A shocking video of the brutal attack went viral on the social media, sparking widespread outrage and demand for justice from the countrymen.

Ayesha Siddiqa Minni was arrested for her alleged involvement in the murder as well for the sake of proper investigation of the case.

Later on September 3, Minni was released from Barguna prison with   High Court bail order.
