Rohingya return: US Senators mull more pressure on Myanmar

DHAKA: After visiting Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, US Senators say federal representatives will ask their federal colleagues to put more pressure Myanmar to return Rohingya back home.

They said this while talking to media before leaving Bangladesh for USA.

During their one-week visit to Bangladesh, New York State Senators visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar hat hosted over 1.1 million forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.

Regarding the Rohingya repatriation, Senator Lewis Sepalveda told the media that there is a lack of international pressure on Myanmar and also lack of highlighting incidents that happened to Rohingyas, before the world.

“Hopefully, we will talk to our federal representatives to engage more in efforts to put pressure on Myanmar so Rohingya people can return (to Myanmar), he added.

The five senators visited Bangladesh from October 20 to 26, led by New York State Senator Lewis Sepulveda.

During this time, they visited Sylhet and Cox's Bazar.
