Banglanews’ Sharif Sumon wins award for Tobacco control

DHAKA: Sharif Sumon, senior correspondent of Banglanews, has received ‘Progga Tobacco Control Journalism Award for year 2019’ in recognition of contribution in the field of tobacco control. 

In addition, two other journalists also received the award. They are – Suhada Afrin of Daily Prothom Alo and Mamun Abdullah of Somoy Television.

The Tobacco Media Journalism Award was jointly organized by the Progotir Jonno Gyan (Progga) and Anti-Tobacco Media Alliance (ATMA) at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (October 23).

Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud handed over this year's award to journalists. 

A total of 14 reports were selected for scrutiny. A jury board of ten, including former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique, selected three of them as best reporters.

Sharif Suman, Senior Correspondent of Banglanews, who is working in Rajshahi area, said that receiving the award increases the responsibility of such work. 

He also thanked the jury board for the award and said that he was a not journalist of Dhaka but he got the award. It proves that no matter where anyone work is, the work is important more.
