CHATTOGRAM: More than 100 shops were gutted in a fire that broke out at Jahur Hawkers Market adjacent to New Market in the port city early Saturday (Oct 19).
Md Jashim Uddin, assistant director of Fire Service, said the fire broke out at 3:45am. Fire fighters from Agrabad, Nandankanon, Chandanpur and Kalurghat fire stations brought the blaze under control around 6 am.
The origin of the fire and the extent of losses cannot be known immediately, he added.
Md. Azim, owner of a shop (No. 455) at the market told Banglanews that he tool Tk 2 lakh as loan and bought the goods, all of which were burnt to ashes.
