Fahad murdered on suspicion of Shibir man: DMP

DHAKA: BUET student Abrar Fahad was beaten to death on suspicion of his link to Islami Chhatra Shibir, said Monirul Islam, additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He said this in reply to query of reporters at a press conference held at DMP media center on Monday (Oct 14).

Monirul Islam said four of the 19 accused involved in the murder of Abar Fahad have given confessional statements in the court. 

The accused, in the statements, said that Abar Fahad was beaten randomly on suspicion of his link to Shibir. The cause of the murder has come out from the statements of the accused.

He said the investigation into the murder of Abar's Fahad will be completed by early November. The Detective Branch (DB) Police will file a charge sheet in the court in November.

Abrar Fahad, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BUET was allegedly beaten to death at his dorm Sher-e-Bangla Hall early Monday (Oct 7).

The body of Fahad was found lying between the first and second floors of Sher Bangla Hall.

Later on that day, police arrested 10 BCL leaders of its Buet unit over the alleged involvement in the killing of fellow student Abrar Fahad. 

On Oct 8, a Dhaka court placed ten leaders of BCL on a five-day remand and fixed November 13 for submission of probe report of the case filed over the murder of Abrar Fahad.
