Maintain quality of development works for roads: PM

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the authorities concerned to implement the roads and highways development works maintaining due standard, avoiding the homesteads of poor people in case of constructing roads and slightly changing the road alignments if needed.

She made the remarks at the 6th ECNEC meeting of the current fiscal year with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Tuesday (September 17).

In the meeting, the Premier said that the government is widening and strengthening every road and highway in the country and such operation would continue in future also.

PM Hasina also vowed to further strengthen the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) to boost the project monitoring and Evaluation capacity.

She renewed her directives to keep necessary water bodies and ponds while constructing any infrastructure side by side remaining alert about the price during procurement of project related various items.

Referring to the approval of the revised form of 'Ashrayan-2' project at a cost of Tk 4,824 crore, she said that the development project should be taken into account if there are ponds or reservoirs. The project area should have clean water, plants and playgrounds.

Regarding Cox's Bazar Airport, Sheikh Hasina said the airport is at the strategic location of the international route. Refueling of the planes can be arranged here. The airport can be converted into international standard one.
