British MPs in Sylhet to clean up Surma UK MPs on bank of Surma River

SYLHET:  Sylhet is called the Second London. This myth could be prevalent because a large number of Sylhetis live in Britain. There are indeed some similarities. London is situated on the banks of the River Thames while Sylhet is on Surma River banks.

It could be that, with that attachment in hearts, a 22-member delegation, comprising three MPs from the British Conservative party, came to Sylhet to clean Sylhet city.

The delegation under the banner of Conservative Friends of Bangladesh joined a clean-up project called ‘Clean Surma Green Sylhet’

The 22-member delegation took part in the clean-up operation at Chandni Ghat area on Surma River bank on Monday (September 16).

Conservative Party’s MP Paul Scally and President of the Conservative Friends of Bangladesh organization MP Anne Margaret and MP Bob Blackman led the operation.

During the clean-up campaign, the British MPs said: “Bangladesh has friendly relations with London. The way, the young people has come forward to protect the environment here is an example. We too are proud to participate with them in the environment protection movement.”

British MPs urged everyone to keep Surma River clean and tidy.

On behalf of Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), British MPs also assured environmentalist organizations of cooperation to keep Surma bank clean
