COX’S BAZAR: The volume of criminal activities is growing in Rohingya camps. Internal disputes are also growing among Rohingyas to control the spread of drugs, human trafficking and markets in the camps.

Besides, the number of attacks, conflicts, murder, kidnapping and rape is also increasing.

According to law enforcement agencies, 43 Rohingyas were killed during internal conflict in the last two years. 32 others died in alleged gunfights with security forces.

In addition, a total of 471 cases have been filed against Rohingyas on charges of robbery, abduction, rape, stealing, drugs and human trafficking.

208 of them are related to narcotics, 43 in murder cases and 31 in women related cases.   1088 Rohingyas are accused in the cases. Locals said Rohingyas are attacking them alongside committing criminal activities. Tension is intense because of their activities.

Police and local sources said there are seven gangs of robbers in each camp of Teknaf and Ukhia. They carry out murder, abduction, yaba tablet smuggling, rape and so forth.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) commander wing Azim Ahmed told Banglanews: “RAB monitoring has been strengthened in the camps to curb crimes. A couple of Rohingyas were detained for their alleged involvement in various crimes including drugs.”

“Rohingya-related cases are increasing day by day. Apart from policing the camps, regular patrolling and raids have been reinforced,” Iqbal Hossain, Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP) of Cox’s Bazar, told Banglanews.
