Kolkata crash: Families receive bodies of 2 Bangladeshis

BENAPOLE (JASHORE): The bodies of two Bangladeshis who were killed in a road crash in Kolkata have arrived here Sunday (August 18).

Indian Petrapole and Benapole Immigration authorities conducted the formalities.

Kazi Md Mainul Alam, 35 and Farhana Islam Tania, 28 sheltering outside a Kolkata police traffic outpost to escape the rain, were crushed to death around 1:50am Saturday (August 17), when a Jaguar car rammed into them after hitting a Mercedes sedan, in the vicinity of Kolkata's famous Park Street.

Both the luxury vehicles spun out of control and the Jaguar rammed the victims standing nearby.

The bodies were handed over to the victims' families following formalities, said Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain.

Mainul was son of one Kazi Khalilur Rahman in Bhutiargati village in Jhenaidah.

He was employed as an area manager of Grameen Phone.

Tania, daughter of one Munshi Aminul Islam in Chandur village under Khoksa upazila in Kushtia, was employed as a senior officer at City Bank's Dhanmondi branch.

They went to India on August 14 for treatment, said one Shafiullah who survived the accident.
