DHAKA: The two sedition cases filed against Priya Saha for making false allegation on minorities living in Bangladesh to the US President Donald Trump have been rejected.
Two separate courts of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates rejected the pleas on Sunday afternoon (July 21).
The courts said though the cases were filed on sedition charges, the plaintiff did not bring any permission from the state. The plaintiff is not an agency of the state and the cases were not filed obeying proper rules. For that reason, the pleas were dismissed.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman filed the first case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman.
Dhaka Bar Council executive committee member Advocate Ibrahim Khalil filed the second case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sufian.
In the petition, the petitioner sought court order for issuance of arrest warrant against Priya Saha.
Priya Saha complained to US President Donald Trump about oppression of minorities in Bangladesh. That complaint went viral in social media.
