2 ‘drug peddlers’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR:  Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in a reported gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of the district on Wednesday (July 17).

The gunfight took place at Jajimura area around 4: 30 am.

BGB claimed 3 of its members were also injured.

The deceased were identified as Asmaul Sawdagar, 35, son of Rizwan Saudagar of Charmukundi in Chandpur district, and Zabed Mia, 34, son of Jabbar Ali of Basundia in Jashore district.

The raid was launched on ground that a shipment of yaba pills was about to smuggle into Bangladesh through Jajimura point, said Commanding Officer of BGB Teknaf -2 Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Foysal Khan.

At one stage of gunfight, two of the peddlers got injured. They were first taken to upazila health complex and then to Cox’s Bazar district sadar hospital, Foysal Khan said.

Bodies were kept in Cox’s Bazar district sadar hospital. Legal action will be taken in this regard, Foysal Khan also said.

10,000 Yaba pills and three rounds of fresh bullets were seized, Foysal Khan further said.
