DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Mizanur Rahman would definitely be arrested if there is a specific arrest warrant against him.

He told this in reply to a question from journalists after a discussion organized on the occasion of 'International Day of Misuse of Drugs and Illicit Trafficking' on Wednesday (June 26).

The Directorate of Narcotics Control organized the programme at the Krishibid Institute Auditorium in the capital.

The minister said, “DIG Mijan will be arrested if there is a specific arrest warrant against him. If he wants to surrender, then he can do it. Necessary measures have been taken against DIG Mizan according to law.”

The minister did not make any comment when asked about whether DIG Mizan can go abroad or into the hiding.

Earlier, in his speech as the chief guest, Asaduzzaman Khan said that the government is determined to eradicate drug. We are working simultaneously on demand, supply and rehabilitation.

“In the case of demand reduction, we are focusing on creating a social movement against drugs. In this movement, social resistance will be created by adding people from all walks of life”, he added.

Anti-drug committees have been formed over 28 thousand educational institutions.

BGB and Coast Guard have been strengthened in border area to reduce drugs supply. Our security forces are also working relentlessly.

The minister said those who are smuggling drugs will not be allowed to do this anymore. The drug smuggling will be stopped at any cost.
