War trial: RP Shaha murder verdict Thursday

DHAKA: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is set to deliver its judgment on Thursday (June 27) in a case filed against Mahbubur Rahman over crimes against humanity including killing of philanthropist Ranada Prasad Shaha and his son in 1971.

The three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Shahinur Islam on Wednesday (June 25) set the date of pronouncement of the verdict in the case.

Earlier on April 24, the tribunal declared the judgment CAV after the counsels of both sides wrapped up their closing arguments.

Earlier on March 28 in 2018, the tribunal framed three charges against Mahbubur Rahman of Mirzapur in Tangail for alleged wartime crimes including the abduction and killing of philanthropist Ranada Prasad Shaha and his son.

He was also charged with abduction and killing of 55 others in two separate incidents in 1971.

Mahbubur has been in jail since November in 2016.

On February 11 last year, the court took the charges brought against him into cognizance.
