2 to die, 17 get life term for murder in Dinajpur Dinajpur court

DINAJPUR: A district court has awarded death penalty to two brothers and life imprisonment to 17 persons for killing a man over land dispute on October 29 of 2004.

Judge Md. Anwarul Haque of additional district and sessions judge’s court of Dinajpur delivered the verdict on Sunday (June 23).

Two death-raw convicts were identified as Jahangir Alam and Shariful Islam, sons of Abdur Rahman, of Ratnur village of Biral upazila.

Two brothers were fined Taka 10,000 each otherwise 7 years of rigorous punishment will be applicable.  

On the other hand, 17 lifers were fined Taka 10,000. In default, 1 year of punishment as well as 7 years of rigorous punishment will be applicable.

Out of 19 convicts, Abdur Rahman and Aklima Khatun are absconding.

Additional public prosecutor Md. Hasne Imam Nayan and Advocate Ekramul Amin moved the case for the state.

Abdul Bari was murdered by his rivals over land dispute on October 29 of 2004.
