PM vows to reduce poverty rate further

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday (June 23) said country’s poverty rate has dropped down to 21.8 percent today and her goal is to reduce the poverty rate further.

The Prime Minister was addressing a closing ceremony of the ongoing 110th, 111th and 112th law and administration courses at the Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Academy at Shahbagh in the city on Sunday (June 23).

The Prime Minister said, “The extreme poverty rate in the country is 11 percent. The government has taken huge social security programs for the extreme poor”.

“Our goal is to build Bangladesh as a prosperous country in South Asia. Keeping this in mind, we want to build Bangladesh as a prosperous developed and peaceful country as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” sheikh Hasina added.

Addressing the programme, the premier urged asked the fresh civil service (BCS) administration cadre officials to serve the people as their servants and for their welfare as well as development of the country being imbued with patriotism.

“Don’t take your service merely as a job, work for the country as well as the people with dutifulness and patriotism,” she said.

Describing the development and advancement of the country, Sheikh Hasina said, “The progress of the unbeatable development of Bangladesh should not stop. The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman liberated the country. For that, Bengalis can stand with their heads high everywhere today”.

Describing the public welfare activities of the Awami League government, she said that formation of Awami League was for the establishment of the rights of the Bengalis. So, whenever Awami League comes to power, the fate of the people of the country changes.

Standing Committee Chairman on Ministry of Public Administration HM Ashikur Rahman, MP, Secretary of the Ministry Faiz Ahmed and Rector of the BCS Administration Academy Kazi Rowshan Akhter also spoke at the function.

Earlier, Sheikh Hasina handed over the awards and certificates among the participants and later enjoyed a colorful cultural programme.
