DHAKA: The High Court on Thursday (June 20) ordered Swajan Paribahan and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) to compensate Karwan Bazar road crash victim Rajib Hossain's family Tk 50 lakh.
Swajan Paribahan authorities and BRTC each have been ordered to pay Tk 25 lakh each within two months.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam issued the order Thursday (June 20).
Rajib Hossain, a third-year student of Government Titumir College, lost a hand after it got stuck between two running buses racing to overtake each other in the capital's Karwan Bazar area on April 3, 2018. He succumbed to injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 17.
On April 4, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal filed a writ petition over the accident.
On May 8 the same year, An HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Jahirul Haque ordered BRTC and Swajan Paribahan authorities to pay Tk 1 crore to two brothers of Rajib.
BRTC submitted a plea to the concerned branch of Appellate Division to stay a latter order of Tk 25 lakh compensation on May 10.
