Money in banks not for looting: PM

JATIYA SANSAD: Jatiya Sangsad leader and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there is money in the banks, but not for the looters. Those who have been corrupted in the past are now in prison.

The Prime Minister said this in her speech on behalf of the Finance Minister on the supplementary budget of the fiscal year 2018-19 in the Parliament on Monday (June 17).

Sheikh Hasina said, “There is a lot of talking outside the parliament about this supplementary budget. If the budget is nothing, if it is not implemented, then how much development has been done in the last 10 years?

The Prime Minister said, in 2008, we have seen only Tk 61,000-crore budget. It has been increased to Tk 5 lakh crore.

Government’s initiative for power generation has been criticized. We have allocated necessary money for the electricity sector as per the demand. As a result, 93 percent of the people are getting electricity now, she added.

Many quarters raised voice that there is no money in the bank.  Why the bank will not have money? Of course, there is money. But there is no money for looters. Many looted the bank's money. We know who took it. We know them. They are imprisoned for corruption. We will disclose all in right time.

The premier said that Bangladesh's development is a wonder in the world today. Poverty dropped to 21 percent. We're working to bring it down further. She also urged MPs to pass the supplementary budget.
