CHATTOGRAM: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das said that Bangladesh-India bilateral relations are going through a golden era due to sincere statesmanship of the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh.

She said this at a meeting organized by Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) at World Trade Centre in port city’s Agrabad area on Monday (June 17).

The High Commissioner said the GDP growth of Bangladesh is increasing gradually. There are many industries of India in this country. They are playing a role in Bangladesh economy. India's zone will be in Economic Zones at Mongla and Mirsharai.

Referring to the legacy of Chittagong as the oldest, she said, language, culture and man-to-man communication are strengthening the relations between the two countries.

Calling for a major reduction in the foreign trade between India and Bangladesh, Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said that the connectivity of roads, waterways and railways has to be increased to increase trade connectivity with Seven Sister states of India.

The communication system has to be developed. Chittagong port is a key factor of Bangladesh economy. 98 percent of containers are transported through this port, he added. 

The Chamber President further aid, Sheikh Hasina's government is establishing 100 EC zones. Bangabandhu Shilpanagar is to be set up at Mirsarai where investors will get one stop service.  India's businessmen can build industries here. Hopefully they will be benefited.

Business leaders drew the attention of the Indian High Commissioner on non-tariff barriers, transit cargo movement and reduction of cost of doing business, investment in skilled human resources, health sector and other matters.
