Schoolgirl killed in Lalmonirhat clash, 5 held

LALMONIRHAT: A class-IX girl was killed in a clash erupted over a land dispute in Lalmonirhat sadar upazila Monday (June 17) morning.

Three others including her parents were injured.

Police, however, detained five persons over the incident.

Deceased Lucky Khatun, 15, was daughter of one Nazrul Islam of Shiberkuti village under Kulaghat union, studied at Char Kulaghat High School.

Police and locals told Banglanews that one Ekramul Huq Ekra and Lucky's father Nazrul Islam engaged in a clash for long, over a land. More than one case is under trial over the matter. 

On Monday morning, Ekra led a group of people to take control of the land. Nazrul Islam was attacked by them, while resisting. Lucky, her mother Kulsum Begum and aunt Somortho Banu were also attacked while they had come to rescue Nazrul.

Locals rushed the four to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital with critical injuries where Lucky was pronounced dead by physician.

On information, police went to the spot and nabbed five suspected attackers.

Process is on to file a case over the incident, said Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahfuz Alam.

The detainees are being interrogated, he added.
