‘Drug trader’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

COX’S BAZAR: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Gafur Project area in Teknaf upazila early Friday (May 31).

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Lt Colonel Mohammad Foysal Hasan Khan, commanding officer of BGB-2, told Banglanews that being tipped off that a group of drug peddlers would smuggle a big consignment of yaba tablets from Myanmar through the area a team of BGB took position there at night.

At that time, some people intruded into Bangladesh by wooden boat. Sensing the presence of BGB, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to retaliate, triggering the gunfight.

After the gunfight, BGB rescued a bullet-hit body and recovered 110,000 Yaba tablets, a machete after searching the boat.

BGB claimed that two BGB men Lance Naik Md Jahirul islam and Sepoy Md Jabbirul suffered injuries during the gunfight.

The process gets underway to file case in this connection.
