NAWABGANJ (DHAKA): Two friends were killed as some unidentified muggers attacked them on Dhaka-Bandura road in the Nawabganj upazila on Thursday (May 23) night.

The deceased were identified as Sheikh Kalam, 52, son of Sheikh Kadam Ali of Noadda village under Galimpur union of the upazila and Zahid, 43, son of late Md Fahzdar Khan in the same village.

Zahid along with Kalam went to the house of Khokon Molla, a friend of them, on motorcycle. While returning home at 11pm, three muggers intercepted Zahid’s motorcycle putting barricade on road and hit Kalam's neck with a sharp weapon. Then, Kalam fell off the motorcycle, Zahid’s friends told Banglanews.

In the meantime, Zahid came down from the motorcycle to rescue Kalam and the muggers also beat him. Later, the miscreants escaped when locals came forward hearing their screaming.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent to the injured to Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared Kalam dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, injured Zahid suffered from heart disease after hearing Kalam's death news. As his condition was deteriorating, he was immediately sent to the National Heart Institute and Hospital in Dhaka. But Zahid died on the way to that.
