COX’S BAZAR: Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) seized 140000 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets in a raid conducted at deep sea-offshore areas under St. Martin's Island.

On secret information, members of CG Station of Teknaf launched the raid on Saturday night (May 18), seizing also 800 grams of hemp.

A press release, signed by assistant director (detective) of BCG Lieutenant Commander BM Hamidul Islam, was issued on Sunday (May 19).

A trawler was given signal to pull over, but it refused the signal and fled towards Myanmar, leaving behind two sacks when members chased the trawler. No one could be detained in the drive, the release said.  

The yaba pills and hemp will be handed over to Teknaf police station, the release also said.
