4 remanded as woman burnt dead

LAXMIPUR: A court here placed four accused in a case filed over death of woman after allegedly setting afire by her husband on a two-day remand each. 

Inspector (investigation) Alamgir Hossain, also investigating officer (IO) of the case, on Wednesday (April 24) placed the accused before the court of Laxmipur Judicial magistrate with five-day remand petition for each. 

Later, magistrate Tarek Aziz granted two-day remand for each, said Jasim Uddin, Public Prosecutor of Laxmipur District Judge Court.  

Earlier on Tuesday (April 23), the court sent the four accused to jail. 

The accused --- Alauddin, brother of key accused Salahuddin, Local Union Parishad (UP) member Hafiz Uddin, and Village Police Abu Taher. 

Key accused Salauddin, son of Mohar Ali of Char Falakon village, is absconding. 

Earlier on April 22, a woman, who sustained severe burns after setting afire allegedly by her husband in Komolnagar upazila, lost her battle for life at the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Zafar Uddin, father of the victim Shahinur Akhter, filed case under women and children repression act accusing 12 people, including Salauddin.  

While talking to reporters at Laxmipur sadar hospital, Shahinur daughter of Zafar Uddin of Raozan upazila in Chattogram, who sustained 55 percent burn injuries, claimed that following love affairs though mobile phone, she got married to Salauddin, a resident of Ayubnagar in Komolnagar upazila, one and a half years ago.

Later she came to know that her husband was married and he has two sons. So, she rushed to Salauddin’s house to demand recognition as his wife. At one stage, Salauddin took her to a Soyabean field and set afire her by pouring kerosene.

Later, the injured was admitted to the Sadar hospital and then shifted to DMCH Burn Unit, Alamgir Hossian, officer in charge of (Investigation) told Banglanews.
