RANGAMATI: Bangladesh Fisheries Development Corporation (BFDC) has issued a three-month ban on fishing in the Kaptai Lake which will take effect from May 1 to ensure boosting fish population.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) AKM Mamunur Rashid, in a meeting at conference room in the district administration on Tuesday (April 23) morning.
He said all kinds of netting, marketing, preserving, drying and transport of fish from the lake will remain banned for three months from May 1 to July 31.
During this period, fishermen, who earn their livelihood by fishing in Kaptai lake, have been brought under a VGF (vulnerable group feeding) programme. Under it, each fisherman family will get rice.
“Mobile courts have kept ready to bring to book those who will be found fishing in the lake during the ban period. Naval police team, BGB, Fishing Development Authority will patrol around the lake to prevent illegal fishing,” said the DC.
