SIRAJGANJ: A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported ‘gunfight’ with police in Ullapara of the district.

The incident happened at Ghoshgati area of the upazila on Saturday dawn (April 20).

The deceased was identified as Mostafa Kamal, 33, son of late Abdur Rashid, of Kawak village of the municipality.

Four other drug peddlers were detained along with seizure of 21 bottles of Phensydil and 80 pieces of yaba pills.

On being informed that drugs were being sold at Ghoshgati area, a team of police raided that area, officer-in-charge of Ullapara police station Dewan kowshiq Ahmed told Banglanews.

Fearing presence of law enforcers, drug dealers opened fire on them. In self defense, police retaliated, triggering a gun battle. At one stage, Mostafa Kamal got killed and his accomplices fled the spot, OC said.

His body was sent to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital for autopsy, OC added.
