GAZIPUR: A suspected criminal was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Porabari Ipsha gate area of Gazipur City.

Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The incident took place at around 2:30am on Friday (April 19).

Tipped off, some criminals were trading arms in Porabari Ipsha gate area, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive there, said Abdullah Al-Mamun,  Company Commander of Rab-1 Porabari camp.

Sensing the presence of Rab personnel, the criminals opened fire, prompting them to retaliate that triggered the gunfight, leaving one of the criminals injured. 

The injured was taken to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

However, two members of the elite force suffered injuries. One foreign-made pistol and a bullet were recovered from the spot.
