Nusrat murder: Fellow student Shamim remanded

FENI: A court here placed Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa student Shamim on a five-day remand in the case filed over killing of his fellow student Nusrat Jahan Rafi by setting fire on her. 

Feni Senior Judicial magistrate court judge Saraf Uddin Ahmed on Thursday (April 18) passed the order after hearing a remand plea.
 
Inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and also investigating officer of the case Shah Alam told Banglanews that he appealed for a seven-day remand for interrogation. 

Earlier on Monday (April 15, police arrested Shamim, son Md Shafi Ullah and Alim examinee of the madrasa, from Tulatoli village of Sonagazi upazila.

PBI and police arrested 14 people so far in the connection and the court placed them on different terms remand for interrogation.   

Earlier on April 15, Nuruddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim, two accused in Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case, confessed their involvement in setting the Feni madrasha girl on fire in a bid to kill her. 

Earlier on that day, another court placed Sonagazi municipal councilor Maksudul Alam on a five-day remand in the case. 

The court on Wednesday (April 10) placed the key accused Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa principal Siraj ud Doula on a 7-day remand and two other people on five-day remand each in the case.

The others are Abser Uddin, lecturer of English Department of the madrasa and student Arif.

On Thursday, a Feni court placed niece of madrasa principal Siraj ud-Doula and another accused on a five-day remand in a case filed over setting fire on Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Sonagazi upazila.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, the madrasha girl from Feni’s Sonagazi upazila, who was set on fire on April 6, succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Wednesday (April 10) night.

Nusrat was kept on life support at DMCH since April 8.

On April 6, the student went to the exam center at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa. Later, some students, who are loyal to the principal of the madrasa, took her to the roof and set fire on her by four people wearing burqa, veil and gloves.

At her screaming, locals, students and teachers took her to hospital.

The heinous incident occurred days after her mother on March 28 filed a case against the madrasa principal SM Siraj-ud-Doula on charge of harassing the girl sexually on March 27.
