DHALA: Around 300 Bangladeshis have been shifted to safe places from Libyan capital Tripoli and its adjacent areas as armed conflicts have intensified there.

According to a Foreign Ministry official, there are around 4,000 Bangladeshis in nearby areas of Tripoli. Nearly 300 people have already been evacuated from conflict zones.

The embassy has opened a hotline as part of giving all kind of supports for Bangladeshi citizens though any casualties are yet to be reported, the official added.

Nearly 180 people have died and more than 800 injured as a result of General Khalifa Haftar’s assault on Tripoli, with at least four civilians killed in a bombardment on the Libyan capital overnight.

The government in Tripoli denounced Haftar’s attacks as barbaric, adding: “The indiscriminate attacks showed his forces lacked a shred of humanity.”

The prime minister, Fayez al-Sarraj, visited some of the sites struck by missiles after which he called for three days of mourning. He said evidence of the brutal attacks on civilian neighbourhoods would be handed to the international criminal court (ICC).
