WB-IMF meeting: Rohingya issue getting importance

WASHINGTON: The Spring Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) began to set unified action to determine the cyber-risk and tackle climate change and illegal migration issues.

Rohingya Issues and discussions on Private investment for the implementation of Sustainable Development Targets (SDGs) Bangladesh are getting importance in the meeting, which began in the World Bank Office in Washington, DC. 

Officials concerned said, Bangladesh will highlight various issues related to its interests, including Rohingya, to the global policy-makers. 

Besides, to make the growth of all the countries more sustainable, the talks will also be discussed to find strategies for reducing tension over trade war between the United States and China.

The meeting was attended by finance ministers and central bank governors from 189 countries, including Bangladesh Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal. Some 2,800 guests, representatives of 350 financial institutions and 800 journalists and 550 representatives of civil society are participating the meeting. 

The Bangladesh delegation includes 15 officials, including the Finance Minister and the Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Fazle Kabir, Finance Secretary Abdur Rauf Talukder and Economic Relations Division Secretary Monowar Ahmed.

Economic Relations Division Secretary Monowar Ahmed said the Rohingya issue will be placed in the Friday (April 12)’s meeting. Many Rohingya camps may be damaged in the upcoming rainy season. 

“If the settlements are damaged then it is necessary to money to build new ones. This matter will be placed to donor agencies”, he added.
