DHAKA: Seventeen persons have been killed and an unspecified number of people suffered burn injuries in city’s Banani FR Tower inferno.

The fire has been brought under control. Many people are still missing, according to law enforcers.

Of the 17 deceased, a Sri Lankan national was declared dead at Kurmitola General Hospital, another at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and three others at United Hospital till writing of the report.

“So far, three victims of Banani’s FR tower inferno have succumbed to their burn injuries at United Hospital,” Abu Bakar Siddiq, officer-in-charge of Gulshan police station, told Banglanews.

Three of the deceased are men. One of the deceased was named Monir, but the rest could not be identified. Two died from jumping off the building. Besides, 17 victims are having treatment at the hospital, OC also said. 

The fire erupted at 12:55 pm on Thursday (March 28).
