DHAKA: The protesting students left Shahbagh intersection facilitating smooth traffic after giving the authority an ultimatum for realizing their 8-point demand and a written statement from the prime minister assuring road safety.

If the demands aren’t met and the statement from the premier isn’t issued by tonight, they will retake to the streets on Thursday (March 21) morning, they warned.
 
Dhaka University (DU) finance department second-year student Shahriar Alam, flanked by fellow protesters, announced the ultimatum Wednesday (March 20) afternoon.

Since the morning, hundreds of students staged demonstrations for safer roads in Shahbagh intersection in wake of the death of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury.

Nurul Haque Nur, newly elected Vice President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), expressed solidarity with the protesting students.

He urged the authorities concerned to withdraw all cases filed against students during the road safety movement in late July to early August, 2018, and sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s interference into the demands raised by the students.

However, students of various universities including Jagannath University (JnU), American International University Bangladesh (AIUB), North South University (NSU), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) also staged demonstrations shocked by the death of Abrar who was ran over by a bus in front of Jamuna Future Park in the capital’s Kuril early Tuesday (March 19).
