MUNSHIGANJ: Slab installation work has begun on roadway of the Padma Bridge.
The 1st slab (Slab ID 7F-U-33) was installed on the 7SF span between 42 and 41 pillars at Zajira point.
Local and foreign engineers supervised the slab installation work since Tuesday morning (March 19). Vehicles will run over the slabs.
“Basically, these are pre-cast slabs and they will go through tensioning. No troubles occurred during the installation of the 1st slab,” an engineer who wished to remain anonymous said.
Earlier, slab installation work of the Padma Bridge began in September 2016.
Each slab is measured 2 meters in width and 22 meters in length. There are 500 slabs prepared at Zajira and Mawa points. A total of 2931 slabs will be installed in the Padma Bridge.
Two-story Padma Bridge is being built for multipurpose. Concrete and still are main ingredients of the bridge.
