RANGAMATI: Bilaichhari Upazila unit Awami League (AL) President was shot dead by miscreants in Alikkaon area of Tinkona union of the upazila on Tuesday (March 19) morning. 

The deceased was identified as Suresh Kanti Tanchangya.

Musa Matbar, general secretary of Rangamati district AL, said that, when Suresh along with his wife and son was returning to upazila headquarters by a boat from Farua union after the upazila election, a gang of miscreants obstructed his boat around 9:00am. 

The attackers, then, picked up Suresh and kicked his wife and son out of the boat. Later, they gunned down Suresh on a hill, leaving him dead on the spot, he added.

The district AL general secretary denounced the attack and murder. 

Earlier, seven persons, including an assistant presiding officer, were reportedly shot dead by criminals in Bagaichhari upazila on Monday (Mar 18) evening.
