6 killed in ‘gunfights’ in 5 districts

DHAKA: A suspected robber, an accused and four alleged drug traders were killed in separately reported gunfights with law enforcers in five districts early on Friday (Feb 22).

Of them, two in Cox’s Bazar while one each in Dhaka, Khulna, Cumilla, Mymensingh.

In Cox’s Bazar, a firearms-looting case accused and an alleged drug trader were killed in separate gunfights' in Domdomia and Sabrung Katabunia areas. 

The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam, son of Hossain alias Lal Bujya of Noyapara Rohingya camp and Bellal Hossen, 25, an alleged yaba trader and son of Md Sirajiul Islam of Laxmipur.

The team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-15, in its drive in Domdomia area, recovered two foreign made pistols, two magazines and 13 rounds of bullets, said Rab-15 company commander Mirza Shahed Mahtab.  

The team of Border Guard Bangladesh recovered 9,000 yaba pills from Sabrung Katabunia area around 4:00am, said Lt Colonel Md Asdud Jaman Chowdhury, commander of Teknaf-2 BGB. 

In Dhaka, a drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Gendaria area under Jatrabari of city early Friday (February 22).

Two police officials were also wounded in the incident.

The gunfight took place around 2:15 am.

The deceased Hazrat Ali, 35, and his wife Rahima, who is now fleeing in India, are infamous drug dealers.

Hazrat had 40 cases filed with police stations, Kazi Wazed Ali, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station, told Banglanews.

11 pieces of yaba pills, unexploded cocktails, parts of exploded cocktails and a machete were seized from the spot.

In Khulna, a drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Dighirpar area in Khulna city early Friday (February 22).

The gunfight took place at Nirala graveyard area around 3:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Masud Rana alias Masud, 35, son of late Abdul Haque, from Basupara area under Sonadanga Model Thana.

Police seized a local pipe gun, a machete and 100 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Sheikh Moniruzzaman Mithu told Banglanews that Masud had a number of cases filed with various police stations.

In Mymensingh, Abdur Rashid, 50, a suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with Detective Branch of Police in Thishal Bus Stand area in the city early Friday (Feb 22).

The team of detectives also recovered a pipe gun and 100 grams heroine from the spot. 

In Cumilla, Md Al Amin, a suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with members of police in Karikandi area of Titas upazila around 3:30 am.

A gang of robbers robbed Tk 58 lakh putting barricade on Gouripur-Homna road from salesmen of Riaz Trade of Daudkandi upazila Thursday (Feb 21) morning. Later, police nabbed two robbers along with Tk 15 lakh.

When a team of police along with the detainees reached in Karikandi area, a gang of robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back, triggering the gunfight, said Syed Mohammad Ahsanul Islam, officer in charge of Titas Police Station

During the gunfight, Al Amin caught line in the fire, leaving him injured.  Later, he was taken to Titas Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
