DHAKA: Chemical warehouses will be shifted from the Old Dhaka at any cost, said Chief Engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Rezaul Karim.
Out of the five damaged buildings, 3 buildings have become inhabitable as per primary inspection, Rezaul Karim said.
An 11-member committee formed by DSCC visited Chawkbazar ravaged site on Friday morning (February 22).
Chief DSCC Engineer said, following government’s directive, no new licenses were given. There is no permission to set up chemical godowns in residential areas.
A probe body was formed. Measures will be taken based on their report. Now, chemical godowns will be removed from there at any cost, he further said.
67 people were killed in Chawkbazar inferno till reporting.
The fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in Chawkbazar area of Old Dhaka around 10:45 pm on Wednesday (February 20).
