2 robbers killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

KUSHTIA:  Two robbers were killed in a gunfight with police in Daulatpur upazila of the district early Tuesday (February 19).

Two policemen also were injured in the gunfight.

The incident happened at Katadah field on Dongmorka-Adabaria road of the upazila at dawn.

The deceased were-Mufazzel Hossain alias Mufa, 42, son of Moser Uddin of Garra village and Mahbul, 40, son of Abdur Rahim of Kaipal village- from the same upazila.

Police raided Katadah field as it was learned that two gangs of robbers were engaged in a gunfight over internal feud, Md Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station, told Banglanews.

Sensing presence of law enforcers, the robber gangs opened fire on them. As a result police retaliated in self defense. At one stage, robbers fled the spot, OC said.

Later, police recovered two bullet-hit bodies from the spot.  After being taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared the duo dead.

Police seized two LG guns, four rounds of bullets and a machete from the spot. The two robbers were accused in several cases filed with the Daulatpur Police Station, OC added.
