 ‘Drug trader’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

KUSHTIA: A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Shaldah area of Sadar upazila early Sunday (Feb 17).
 
The deceased was identified as Nazmul Malitha, 40, son of Miraj Malitha of Taragunia area in Daulatpur upazila.  

Nasir Uddin, officer in charge of Kushtia Model Police Station, said a police team conducted the drive around 3 am on information that a gang of drug traders traded gunshots at char of Gorai River in Shaldah upazila.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, both the gang of drug traders opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gunfight.
 
The gunfight left Nazmul injured with bullets and others managed to fee the spot.
 
Later, the injured was taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
 
Police recovered 600 pieces of Yaba pills, one foreign pistol, two bullet shells and two magazines from the spot.
