GAZIPUR: A police constable was killed as a covered-van ran over him on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Mawna area of Gazipur Saturday (Feb 16) afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 50, hailed from Pathaliapara area of Shahjadpur upazila of Sirajganj, employed at Naogaon court.

He came to Gazipur for his duty for Biswa Ijtema in Tongi.

A covered-van crushed him while he was crossing road, said Mawna Highway Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain.

Locals rescued him and took to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

The covered-van was seized from the spot, added the OC.
