DHAKA: The vitamin A plus campaign slated for Saturday (Jan 19) has been postponed for ‘unavoidable’ reasons, said the Institute of Public Health Nutrition in a press release. 

The government put the campaign on hold as it had reports of the capsules get glued with one another in the packets. 

Asked, an official wishing anonymity told Banglanews that according to the reports some capsules are attached to one another in the packets.  But nothing harmful was found in the glued capsules after test.

The new date for the campaign which was taken to fed Vitamin A plus capsules to 2.2 crore children, will be announced later, he added.

Under the campaign, children aged between six and 11 months get blue colored vitamin ‘A’ capsule while children aged between 12 and 59 months are given red colored high-power capsules on that day.

Vitamin ‘A’ plus capsules is crucial to prevent childhood blindness and reduces child mortality,

Besides, vitamin A increases immunity of children and reduces the risk of child mortality.
