NARSINGDI: Police filed two cases under the Arms Act in connection with clashes between ruling Awami League factions in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi that left four people dead.

Rafiul Karim, sub-inspector of Raipura police station, filed the cases on Saturday morning (Nov 17) against 13 people who were detained over the incident.

Earlier on Friday night (Nov 16), police detained the 13 men, residents of Charmadhua village, with 9 firearms and ammunition from separate areas adjacent to Meghna River.   

Raipura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohsin-ul Kadir confirmed the matter to Banglanews.  

Four people were killed and 40 others injured in the AL factional clashes in Nilakkha union of Raipura upazila over establishing supremacy in the area.

Police said followers of Nilokkha union parishad former chairman Abdul Huq Sarker and incumbent chairman Tajul Islam was engaged in a conflict for many days, over establishing supremacy in the area. 

The deceased are—Sohrab Mia, 30, Swapon, 27, and Morom Ali, residents of Nilokkha union under Raipura.

Following the dispute, the followers of Tajul Islam carried out a planned attack on the followers of Abdul Huq Sarker, on Friday noon. 

At one stage, Sohrab Mia, a follower of Tajul Islam, died on the spot after receiving bullet. Swapon and Morom were whisked-off to a hospital in critical conditions, where the succumbed to injuries.
