DHAKA: Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla said his country will not make any comment on the political alliance formed ahead of the parliamentary election.

However, India wants to see a free, fair and inclusive polls in Bangladesh, he added.

The Indian envoy made the remarks to reporters after meeting with Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader in Dhaka on Thursday (October 18).

Shringla said, “India is a democratic country and we are confident in maintaining friendly relations with the neighboring country and its democracy. That is why we want to see free, fair and participatory polls in Bangladesh.”

When asked about the newly formed political alliance Jatiya Oikyo Front, he said we can talk about democracy as we want its development. However we do not want to make any assertion on the alliance prior to polls.

In response to another question, the Indian High Commissioner also said his country does not expect any violence centering the election.
