Baby Moudud’s chehlam on Sept 5

DHAKA: Chehlam of Baby Moudud, noted journalist and also former MP, will be held on September 5 after magrib prayers at a house in city’s Dhanmondi area.

She, also a prominent rights activist, died of cancer at a city hospital on July 25.

Baby Moudud as a journalist worked for several media organizations including the BBC, Bangla dailies Dainik Sangbad and Dainik Ittefaq, government news agency called Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and weekly Bichitra.

She was buried at Banani Grave Yard in city.

Born on 23 June in 1948 in Kolkata, Baby Moudud was daughter of father Justice Abdul Moudud and mother Hedayetun Nesa.

During her study in Dhaka University, Baby joined the then East Pakistan Chhatra Union and involved in politics.

She was also active in demanding the trial of country’s war criminals.

The rights activist became a Member of Parliament (MP) in the past National Parliament.

She also played an important role in editing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman’s autobiography ‘Asamapta Atmajibani’.

Her chehlam will be held at house 45, road 10/A in Dhanmondi.
