10 to die for killing Nandail medicine trader

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Tuesday sentenced ten persons to death (Dec 24) for killing medicine trader Mazharul Islam Paltan at Nandail in Mymensingh.

The death-row convicts are Ekalas Uddin alias Jewel, Abul Kashem Fakir alias Bachchu Member, Abul Kalam Azad alias Pinu doctor, Chandan, Shukkur Ali alias Ashraf Ali, Kabir Mia, Abul Kashem, Badal Mia, Faruk Mia and Ruma Akhter.

Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka handed down the verdict.

The court, in its verdict, also acquitted seven other accused in the case.

According to the case statement, Paltan was killed at his drugstore during the time between February 28 and Mach 1 in 2007. The killers locked the shop after they had tied the body with a bamboo pole inside, it added.

On March 1, Paltan’s sister Beauty filed a murder case in this regard.
