HC summons Dhaka Spl Tribunal-2 judge

DHAKA: The High Court has summoned the judge of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-2 to explain about the continuation of the proceedings of the case despite HC stay order. 

At the same time, the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) of the court has to appear before the HC on July 3.

The bench comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan on Wednesday (June 26) passed the order after appearance of Rabeya Khatun and her lawyer before it. 

Earlier on April 30, the High Court stayed for three months the proceedings of the case filed against elderly woman Rabeya Khatun 18 years ago over recovery of firearms. 

The court also asked documents of the case and sought an explanation within the two weeks for the delay in judgment.

Lawyer Mohammad Ashraful Alam filed the writ petition attaching a report of The Daily Samakal published on Apr 25 titled 'Elderly Rabeya: How long she is appearing in court?

Sub-Inspector Abdur Razzak of Tejgaon Police Station filed a case against three people including Rabeya Khatun on June 2, 2002 for keeping illegal arms and bullets. 

On 19 September in 2002, sub inspector Abdul Aziz, investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge-sheet against two people. Prosecution produced six witnesses, among 12, before the court in the case.

In 2007, court took the testimony of three people, while three others in 2014.
