State challenges HC verdict on FFs' age limitation

DHAKA: The state on Wednesday (June 19) filed an appeal with the Appellate Division seeking a stay on a High Court verdict over the minimum age set by the government in gazettes and notices.

In the plea, the state sought the gazettes and the notices to be declared illegal.

Appellate Division Chamber Judge Justice Md Nuruzzaman ordered to forward the plea to the full-bench for a hearing.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam moved for the plea while lawyer ABM Altaf Hossain moved for the petitioner, at the courtroom.

On May 19, the HC bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil issued a verdict declaring the Subsection-11 of Section 2 of Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust Act 2018 illegal after hearing of 15 writ petitions over fixing 12 years and six months and 13 years as the minimum age for a person during the Liberation War to be counted as a Freedom Fighter.
