Sonagazi ex OC Moazzem sent to jail Moazzem Hossain in police custody

DHAKA: Dhaka Cyber Tribunal sent Sonagazi Police Station former officer-in-charge Moazzem Hossain to jail after rejecting his bail plea, in a case filed over leaking the illegally filmed deposition of slain madrasa girl Nusrat Jahan Rafi.

Judge Mohammad As Sams Jaglul Haider issued the order in presence of Moazzem at the tribunal Monday (June 17) noon.

June 30 has been fixed for forming charges in the case.

Shahbagh Police Station arrested Moazzem from High Court area Sunday (June 16) afternoon. He was handed over to the custody of Sonagazi Police Station around 9:30am Monday.

Afterwards, police took him to the tribunal around 12pm.

Dhaka Cyber Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Moazzem on May 27, in the case filed over interrogating sexual assault victim Nusrat in an offensive style and later spreading the video on social media after filming it.

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) ran an investigation into the case upon court order.

Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a madrasa girl at Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa in Feni, who was set on fire on April 6, succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on the night of April 10.

Chief of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Banaj Kumar Majumder earlier said that all the accused involved in the incident of setting Nusrat on fire, in a bid to kill her, were arrested.

On May 29, PBI pressed charges against 16 people in the case filed over the murder. 21 accused, including 16 charge-sheeted, were produced before the court on May 30.
